The Guitar Wiring Blog – Charts and Tips: How does a guitar volume potentiometer work? from The Guitar Wiring Blog

The Guitar Wiring Blog is an old established site where I picked lots of diagram when I started modifying guitars.

Each pot was used as a control Volume of the guitar is basically a voltage divider. It is used to control how much resistance will be between the fist and the middle nose, as well as between the middle and the third nose. This system affects how much voltage flows to an output. The diagram shows this thing by button positions.

As you can see, the lower the resistance between the tabs attached to the hot wires and the more resistance there is between the hot path and the ground, the louder the guitar sound will be. When the volume potentiometer knob is set to “10”, a guitar signal has a clear path ahead of it.
